It’s always been said that you can kill people with kindness. In Rosemond’s
world, it takes the additional ability to be able to discover new and potential
talent, because ultimately “that’s what you’re judged on.”
If this is true, then Rosemond has done his job well. Known as “The Man
With the Midas Touch,” he has been a key figure in the burgeoning

Jimmy Rosemond isn’t a man defined by his past. If anything, his past as a
kid growing up in the tougher streets of Brooklyn, N.Y. has made him the
man he is today. Rosemond has established himself as one of the most
powerful executives in the entertainment industry. His company–Czar
Entertainment–located in the Flatiron district of Manhattan, works with such
artists as Brandy, Mario Winans, Trillville, The Game, Sharissa and Smitty
to name a few.
With a team of talented songwriters and producers known respectively as
the Henchmen G’s, Rosemond attacks the music industry with guile and
cunning expertise, which has lead to a culmination of successful, platinum
selling artists and records.
So what exactly is it that he does you ask? “I bridge a lot of the record
companies with the things that are happening that are very current at the
time,” he says. “That may be with the producers. That may be with the
writers. That may even be with the artists. Sometime’s (people) say, ‘Hey I
heard about this guy from Louisiana, have you heard of him?’ and most
likely I have, and know who to contact to get in touch with them. That’s the
way I became the power broker for the industry–having my hand on the
pulse of what’s going on.”
Rosemond, who’s been in this business for more than a decade and splits
his talents between being a power broker, executive music producer and
associate producer to the past three annual Vibe Awards, says his career,
put simply, is based on relationships and who you know.
“I’ve always been a person who’s known the movers and shakers on all
levels,” he says. Although being friendly also helps. Something he says a
lot of people in the industry are not. “That’s been my way of utilizing that to
getting a check from these record companies–me just having relationships
with these people and being friendly.”
“With the artists that I’ve had I’ve been able to break some trends (in
corporate America),” he says. “There’s two mottos that I work by with my
company–that is: being effective and being efficient. If you’re doing those
two things you’re gonna get results and your going to get money for your
clients. You just really have to know what to spend your time on. Plus,
when you handle that, a lot of offers come in to you and you just have to
know what to say ‘yes’ to and what to say ‘no’ to.”
Recently, Rosemond expanded his $2.5 million empire with Czar
Entertainment to include Premo Pictures–a network division that creates
television and cinematic urban productions. By observing how hip-hop and
television have dominated over the minds of today’s impressionable youth,
Rosemond says, “Who more to tell graphic stories and things of that
essence than us who are involved with the musical part.
“Selling DVD’s isn’t that much different than selling records. We just
bridged those two gaps together and understood that at that time 50
(Cent) was one of the hottest things at that moment,” he says of the street
documentary The Infamous Times, “So we did the story about the original
50 Cent. We’re doing things where they know it’s coming from them.”
Despite the efforts of catering to a hard-core hip-hop fan base,
Rosemond's toughest job is managing to keep the relationships tight
between he and all of his clients.
“When you have more than one hit artist...it’s almost like siblings–where
they feel you’re paying more attention to one than the other,” Rosemond
says. “You have to find that balance, like if you’re the parent. But overall,
it’s paying all of them the same amount of attention, whether they’re hot or
not.”
Most importantly, Rosemond believes in just giving his clients good, sound
financial advise. His success is a mirror of hard work, ambition and tireless
dedication. After all these years, he admits that there’s nothing else he
could ever see himself doing...and with such a successful, multi-million
dollar track record, who would blame him?
successes of The Notorious B.I.G.,
The Fugees–Wyclef Jean and
Lauryn Hill, Memphis Bleek, Sweet
T, Sunshine Anderson, Tank and
Mike Tyson, as well as introducing
the much debated sound of neo-
soul music with the
formation of R&B duo, Groove
Theory.
